In My Homemade Era

I love Mondays now that I don’t have a regular 9-5 job. I have been spending them making fresh sourdough for the week, fresh butter, this week ketchup and ranch!! All of these things will be going into a separate blog post this week with recipes along with my sourdough discard soft sandwich loaf (a quick 3 hour one).

Today while it was pretty and warm out i decided we could go ahead and grab our seeds for the garden and start those inside since the groundhog said we have 6 weeks. Sounds about like the perfect amount of time to get these babies grown and ready for the fresh tilled yard right?? So take this as your reminder if you are putting a garden in this year, get those seeds started because they need to go in the ground right after the last frost of winter. Especially if you have early things like broccoli or carrots. I cant wait to show you the layout and the plans for this years garden. Since i will be home and are trying to get back to homesteading we will have double the vegetables we usually have. More to come on garden things but here i will link our favorite seeds so that you can get started , also i found some starter boxes with soil prefilled for $6.99 at Rural King, whhhattt??

On another note while we discuss the Homemade era, we have had chickens for YEARS, I don’t know lets say 8. We had no idea what it was like spending money on eggs and OH MY GOODNESS. We just lost our last of the old hens due to the last snow, it got too frigid for them. So today, while shopping for seeds we also grabbed a whole flock of 8 new chicks before they were gone. The lady that helped us said they have already sold out of many type the last few days. What is really going on, an egg shortage and now chickens flying off the shelf too? lol We always had Wyandotte so we did get a few of those and a new chicken breed to us, black onyx. Cant wait to watch them Grow!!

The chicks will stay inside a few more weeks before putting them in the coop, sad it will be 4-6 months now before we have our own eggs again though. Thank you for checking in with us, Have a Blessed week and see you back with some recipes soon! – Amanda
